Description
The Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Design Excellence endowment was established in the Department of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley College of Environmental Design to promote the investigation of architecture as a social art. Each year the PRIZE Committee selects a topic important to the understanding of the interaction of people and the built world that becomes the focus of the Essay Competition. This year the topic is: The Architect and the Heathful Environment.

Ananya Roy (a Professor of City and Regional Planning and Distinguished Chair in Global Poverty and Practice at the University of California, Berkeley)
Arif Hasan (an architect/planner in private practice in Karachi)
Teddy Cruz (a Professor of Public Culture and Urbanism in the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego)
John Cary (a connector, writer, speaker, and curator focused on social change, with an emphasis on design for the public good)

Prize
There is a total prize of 15,000USD, minimum 5,000USD first prize.
