Concéntrico is Logroño’s Architecture and Design Festival. It is open to residents of the city and visitors from elsewhere, and it aims to discover and rediscover spaces of interest in the city’s Historic Center. The Festival invites attendees to tour these spaces through installations that create a connection between inner courtyards, tucked-away spaces and small plazas that, in the day-to-day, tend to go unnoticed.
Every installation is created by teams of architects and designers who propose, experiment with and explore new fields of design in the environment. In this way, the Festival offers them the chance to create architectural interventions in the heart of the city, establishing a dialogue between heritage and contemporary architecture, facilitating citizens’ reflection on those spaces.
The plaza is enclosed by the Revellín Wall, the remains of Old Logroño’s fortications; the west-facing gate and the Calle Mayor remain intact. Construction on the wall and gate that can still be seen today began in 1522.
In the second half of the 16th century, the importance of defending the city began to wane, and the deterioration of the walls became evident. Individual buildings were built adjacent to the wall; this did not prevent the current remains from being conserved.
Miguel Ángel Sainz’s sculpture recognizing the centenary of the tobacco company located in the vicinity of the wall (where the Parliament, Library and Amós Salvador building currently stand) can be found in the plaza.
The intervention must be developed entirely with Garnica material; Garnica is the Concéntrico’s chief collaborator. Twenty 2.500 x 1.220 mm Garnica boards are available.
