Description
Goldsmiths, University of London is launching a design competition to build a 400 m2 gallery on the back of the Laurie Grove Baths, a Grade II listed 19th-century bath house, now converted into studios for Goldsmiths’ MFA Fine Art students. The centrepiece of the build is two steel water tanks, which will comprise the main gallery space. The Gallery will make a hugely beneficial impact on the life of the University, though a combination of curated exhibitions, residencies and research projects. We expect the new Gallery will become a significant showcase for contemporary art in London.

We are seeking an inspirational architect-led design team that can design a gallery that will match our ambitions. We would welcome expressions of interest from young, ambitious practices with experience of the Art World context and work on listed buildings.

Jury
The jury members will include:
External: David Chipperfield, Anthony Gormley, Candida Gertler (Outset)
From Goldsmiths: Richard Noble (Head of Art), Jane Powell (Deputy Warden, Catriona Boulton (Director of Estates)

An honorarium of £5,000 will be offered to each shortlisted practice on completion of the second stage of the competition.
