Young Manchester based practice Green Cities have won a competition for the inspirational modernisation of Victorian housing typologies in Manningham, Bradford.

Eligibility Architect-led teams. The competition promoters will be looking to select teams with the capacity to deliver the project and competitors should bear this mind from the outset, for example, by including a contractor on the team.

Description
The competition will set the challenging of designing and developing exciting alternatives for individuals or families who want an alternative to loft style living. Competitors will be invited to submit designs for two properties : a stone built mid-terrace back to back ; and a stone built, end Victorian terrace, which is currently separated into 3 self-contained flats.

Design proposals should place emphasis on innovation, affordability and sustainability. Schemes should provide attractive options to lifestyle living as well as enhancing the feeling of ownership and pride; they should boost the housing market and encourage people to move into the area.

Competition Type
Stage 1 : Seeks concept designs which will be judged anonymously. A shortlist of approximately six will be selected and the authors invited to proceed to the next stage.
Stage 2 : Short-listed teams will be invited to attend an interview at which teams will be asked to make a presentation to the Jury Panel.

Prize
Prize money totalling £18,000 is on offer, and the winners of the competition will be appointed to deliver the designs at the properties.
