Description
The JCD (Japanese Society of Commercial Space Designers) was established in 1961 and then in 1963 was set up as a corporation, it is composed of various creators and organizations that are related to the subject of space design.

The "JCD Design Award", one of our activities, started in 1974 for the purpose of publicly recognizing superior space designs (including such subject matter as human beings, society and nature) in commercial environment. Thereafter, in accordance with changing times, the entire concept of the design award has also been consistently improved so that it might also include the value and possibility of space designs of the age. Since 1999, the screening process has been made public in order to make the discovery and quality of the design more open. Since 2006, entry has been made available through the Internet and the framework or the names of the prize have been modified, seeking a new set of values in order to draw upon more possibilities.

Moreover, as for screening, a wide variety of special judges have been invited and its own sense of value has been founded in order to verify the present-day situation from various viewpoints. (Ettorre Sottosass, Andrea Branzi, Gaetano Pesce, Simo Heikkila, Jean Nouvel, Ken Yeang, Yohji Yamamoto, Kazuko Fujie, Amon Miyamoto, Shigesato Itoi, Kenya Hara, Klein Dytham, Taku Soto, and Kundo Koyama)
