Eligibility The competition is open to landscape architects, architects, designers, artists, florists, landscaping firms and nurseries, as well as to garden owners—or teams consisting of a combination thereof.
Target Field The open space must be clearly identifiable as intended for private residence and use and have been completed after January 1, 1998.

Description
The competition highlights the garden as a place of innovation, as a space for creative expression and action, as contemporary dialogue between architecture and landscape. The award criteria include: idea, artistic and conceptual quality, use of plants and materials, relationship between inside and outside, delimitation of space and organisation of open space, technical and ecological planning. Special attention will also be given to the individual diversity of use and functionality.

The thirty best outdoor spaces and gardens will be published in the catalogue “best private plots 08 – Die besten Gärten 2008 - internationale Beispiele zu Gartenarchitektur”; it will be presented at the award ceremony. The best thirty outdoor spaces and gardens will also be shown in an exhibition.
