Description
The City of Mikkeli is organising a public two-stage architecture ideas competition for the area of Satamalahti.

The purpose of the competition is to increase the density of Mikkeli’s city structure by designing a new model area for ecological construction, extending the city centre to the Lake Saimaa shoreline. The competition will help to create a new image/brand of Mikkeli as a city on the shore of Lake Saimaa, fulfilling the city’s strategic aim of being a “Growth centre for modern services on the shore of Lake Saimaa”.

Further Action as a Result of The Competition
In the competition the City of Mikkeli is seeking a feasible, functional, innovative and high-quality solution for an area extending the city centre. The City will negotiate with the winner/winners on further work. Any contracting authorities are entitled to use the subjects and ideas of the entries awarded prizes or purchased in accordance with the Finnish Copyright Act. In on-going planning the winning competition entry will be developed into a guideline land use plan on the basis of which the City will draw up the partial local master plan. Local detailed plans for the different areas will start to be drawn up immediately on the basis of the partial local master plan. The aim is to have the partial local master plan completed by 2014, while progress can be made on the detailed local plans simultaneously.
The aim is to commence construction work in 2015.

The competition organiser has right of ownership to the competition entries awarded prizes or purchased, while copyright remains with the authors of the entries.
