DESCRIPTION:Southend Pier is an iconic structure that over the last 150 years has helped define Southend. In 2005, however, a fire destroyed the Pier Head. Southend Council is holding an international landscape architecture competition to choose a design for the Pier Head that will reinvigorate and bring activity to it and the town, making it a source of pride to residents and attraction to tourists. The new Pier Head must be developed in a manner that contributes to the cultural offering within the town while also respecting its heritage. The budget for the works on the Pier Head as outlined above is £5million.
