Design Against The Elements

This is a visionary design competition aimed to develop a disaster-proof and sustainable housing complex for the less privileged specially those who are victims of typhoon Ondoy(Ketsana).

Description
The project is concerned with creating sustainable solutions that will last generations and will be affordable as well as environmentally sound to build. This means going beyond the usual single-home planning process and talking into account the project's impact on the larger community and the various aspects of socialized housing and development.
Building typhoon-resistant housing is only one part of the solution. To be fully adaptable to climate change, communities should be ready and equipped to survive anticipated typhoons and flooding by becoming self-reliant and having the necessary facilities for post-disaster support. The submitted design is therefore expected to address all of the following tasks:
1. Develop a master plan for an urban community that can be applied to other similar urban sites.
2. Integrate development that addresses the sustainability of the community by understanding the local demographic, economic, social, and environmental attributes.
