Description
The Seoul Metropolitan Government, in an effort to overcome the current spatial and functional limits of Gwanghwamun Square and to restore historical and cultural symbolism of Gwanghwamun area, is opening this international design competition. All experts or firms that are interested in this opportunity are strongly encouraged to register and submit a proposal.
- Project site: The site area that the winning team of this design competition shall create a design for construction. The gross area is about 126,100㎡, including the current Gwanghwamun Square and the surrounding roads (Sejong-daero, Sajik-ro and Yulgok-ro).
- Strategic area: The areas that surround the project scope area, including the south wall of Gyeongbokgung in the north, the junction of Samcheongdong Stream and Baekundong Stream in the south, Samcheongdong Stream (currently Jong-ro 1-gil) in the east, and Baekundong Stream (currently Saemunan-ro 5ga-gil) in the west.
- Conceptual area: The spatial scope inspired each design plan (each team can freely set this conceptual scope).
Estimated / Construction cost: 60,000 million KRW
Design Fee Budget: 2,764 million KRW
