Overview

The redesign of the Central Square of the city - Iliria Square - always the heart of the city, and the symbolic space of representation of his community, the main public place of collective life, is an exceptional opportunity to consolidate a process initiated and intended to give force and quality to the whole urban and metropolitan structure.

Description
We want to base our efforts on a shared vision for the future of the city, which does not deny the possibility of new architecture languages, even within the historic city, but it is strongly oriented towards environmental sustainability and cultural development, in connection with the new opportunities of the cultural tourism, and the general improving of the quality of life of its inhabitants.
The municipal administration of Durres has estimated an investment of 5 million euros in all in the project for the public works (architectural and green areas of public properties layout). The public areas involved in this intervention measure about 25,000 square metres in all.
The projects of the Competition have to deal with the following themes of analysis and project:
a. Archaeology and cultural heritage
b. Green areas and ecological landscape importance
c. Public events and outdoor displays
d. Integration and re-examination of the built elements
e. Public and private mobility, street furniture and car parks
f. Ecological environmental and social sustainability of the project

Jury
The jury of both stages will be made up of well-known experts, in multi-disciplinary fields, in relation with the theme of the Competition.

Prize
The finalist groups admitted to the second phase of the Competition will receive at the end of this phase the sum of 10,000 euros each. This sum will be an advance for the winner group of the Competition that will have the working assignment, and the total sum of 200,000 euros as a remuneration for the professional performance.

Guided tours to the places of the competition - listening seminars and participation: July and August, 2008
Evaluation and Proclamation of the first phase projects: September 27, 2008
Deadline for the submitting drawings of the second phase: December 28, 2008
Proclamation of the winner project: January 28, 2009
