Description
Because of going through Spanish and Dutch colonial period, Japanese ruling period, and post-war period, the urban spatial structure of New Taipei City has developed with different statuses of politics and economies. In modern period, the city’s spatial structure has been mainly about Original Design Manufacturer for supporting Taipei City’s municipal administration and economy for over 40 years, which has made northern Taiwan become a Greater Taipei metropolitan area. New Taipei City’s urban spatial structure has gradually formed, too. The main urban culture and spatial resources have developed along the Tamsui River and its tributaries, Dahan Creek and Xindian Creek. In 2010, New Taipei City was upgraded to a special municipality and its original administrative boundaries were reintegrated. Also, New Taipei City has been developed with the notion of being a multi-core city. Its main metropolitan areas are divided into two parts, northern and southern parts divided by Dahan Creek and developed together. Xinzhuang District and Banqiao District are two core districts of northern part and southern part of this city, which are divided by Dahan Creek. Both districts are important districts for New Taipei City’s economics, lifestyles, and transportation.
The purpose of the project "New SkyRider" is to establish a solid commuter bike path network to provide citizens a more wise, convenient, and low-carbon green mean of transport. Simultaneously, the flowing and light shape of the bike path system combines wise energy-saving technology to transform landscapes along the bike path. So the cityscape will be transformed by the new landmark and also will bring the development of the region. It is planned that the first-phase demonstration route will run from Xinzhuang District to Banqiao District, which connects northern and southern parts of New Taipei City divided by Dahan Creek. The routes will gradually extend to the whole city and its neighboring city and county, hoping to change citizens' commuting habits by building a low-carbon, wise, friendly city environment and also promote the city's sustainable development.
