Description
Herefordshire Council in partnership with Advantage West Midlands is inviting submissions for a two stage open design competition for the design of a regenerated Buttermarket located in Hereford City Centre.

The competition is a call for ideas only with no commitment beyond the competition to develop any of the schemes. Post-competition it is the aim of the competition promoters to develop a funding strategy and the intention is that the winning design will be used to help in this respect. Should funding become available then it is the intention of the promoters to work with the winning designers to develop their concept and take it forward and through to completion. Therefore whilst this is promoted as an 'ideas only' competition an OJEU notice has been placed.

The competition is organised with the support of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Competitions Office.

The competition is open to architect-led multi-disciplinary design teams and will take the form of a two stage process organised as follows :

Stage 1: Submission of concept designs which will be assessed anonymously

Stage 2: A shortlist will be drawn up and the listed design teams invited to Stage 2. Stage 2 will involve further exploration and refinement of Stage 1 design ideas. Anonymity will be lifted and shortlisted teams will be invited to attend an interview and make a presentation to the Jury Panel.

Jury
The Jury Panel will include RIBA Architectural Adviser Kevin Murphy of Aaron Evans Architects, plus representatives from the Council, ESG, Market Trader Representative, NABMA, and a local architect representative. Full details of the panel will be announced shortly and details uploaded to this website.

Prize
Each team invited to take part in the second phase of the competition will receive an honorarium of £3,750 plus VAT. The winner's honorarium represents an advance of any future professional fee but will be paid upon conclusion of the competition.
