Description
One of the last large brownfields in Bratislava has been awaiting its transformation for years. Today, a new phase is beginning for the area known as "Zváračák," located on Račianska Street near the Bratislava's city center.
The site, located in the Bratislava-Nové Mesto district, currently serves as an office and manufacturing complex. As a large brownfield site on an important urban axis, it has a significant potential to become a fully-fledged part of the compact urban environment.
That is why we are launching an international architectural competition, which will determine the future shape of this area.
The main ambition of the project is to transform this unused area into a lively complex that will combine affordable housing, high-quality public spaces, and a wide range of services. The Zváračák project will thus bring new housing and office spaces, shops, restaurants, services, and high-quality public spaces to the locality.
The two-stage competition combines an open call for a wide range of architectural teams with the participation of three invited European studios--Studio Egret West, KCAP, and Benthem Crouwel Architects. After the pre-qualification round, three shortlisted proposals will join the invited offices in the final stage, forming a six-team lineup.
