CMLC unveils winning St. Patrick’s bridge design
Arched structure chosen from 33 submissions
(Calgary, Alberta) - Calgarians have spoken and the results are in. The new St. Patrick’s bridge will be a lower profile, arched structure that respects the location and aesthetics of St. Patrick’s Island and the Bow River. The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) today named RFR (Paris, France) and Halsall Associates Limited (Calgary) as the winning design team in the conceptual design competition for the new St. Patrick’s bridge. The decision was made after months of careful consideration and an ongoing public engagement process.

Description
CMLC has been charged with the responsibility of implementing public infrastructure improvements that will be the catalyst for private and public sector development in the Rivers District with a focus on East Village. The design and construction of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge - St. Patrick’s Bridge - is an important component of the infrastructure improvements in the Rivers District. CMLC has initiated a competitive process for the conceptual design of the pedestrian/bicycle bridge which crosses the Bow River and provides crucial links between the communities on the north and south of its banks with city attractions, amenities and pathway systems.
The total Project budget is currently considered to be under $25,000,000 including, without limitation, profit, design and engineering costs, construction costs (including labour and materials), construction management fees, contingencies, and all consultant fees. The bridge is tentatively scheduled to be built by 2011.
