Description
REMADE which stands for Reclamation and MAnagement of DErelict land, has been set up by Lancashire County Council in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency as part of the Agency’s commitment to tackling the region’s derelict land problem.

One project being considered by REMADE is a new greenway, between Southport and Preston, which will require a new crossing of the River Douglas in Becconsall. On the line of a disused railway, the bridge would replace an 85m long structure, demolished in the 1960’s.

REMADE are looking for a fine structure of its time in harmony with the surrounding landscape and one which legibly marks the crossing point.

Site and Context
REMADE are currently leading on the crossing on behalf of the Ribble Coast and Wetlands Regional Park Partnership. The Ribble Coast and Wetlands area is one of the most important places for wildlife in Europe. The Partnership is working together to deliver a vision, that by 2020 the proposed Regional Park will be an internationally recognised destination based on its environmental significance.

A new crossing of the River Douglas will improve access within the proposed Regional Park allowing more visitors to enjoy the area. It is anticipated that the new river crossing will function not only as an access route but also as a flagship attraction within the Regional Park.
